Conference & Kolkata District Committee formation on 16th April, 2010
As declared earlier, the Kolkata District Committee of our Assiciation was formed & officially announced at a conference at Students Hall, College Street, in the presence of important dignitories on stage, and hundreds of Part-timers & guest lecturers from nearly all over Bengal, on 16th April, 2010. Mr. Gouranga Debnath led the vote of motion on stage, announced the names of the newly appointed district President & Secretay, along with the Executive Committee Members. The proposed candidatures were unanimously supported & thereby approved by all the members of the association present. Prior to these occurances, from 10am in the morning several measures,were adopted to voice the protest of the Part-time lecturers. These included, teaching students(conducting mock-classes)in streets, agitation, a huge procession of hundreds of part-timers encircling college square & then entering the Students' Hall with outcries of enthusiastic slogans, drawing attention of thousands of passer-by, shopkeepers among many others. Electronic & Print medias, national & local, invited earlier to witness the rally, flocked at the venue, to grab bites & take snaps of the memorable event. It was later aired on the same day by Star Ananda, Kolkata TV, Tara News, & Ctvn. The Conference was a great success with Prof. Tarun Naskar(General Secretary, College & Universities Teachers' Association of India) & Prof. Anjan Sengupta(Secretary, West Bengal Principal's Association) as Guests of Honour on stage, who graced & surcharged the occassion, speaking largely in favour of the oppressed teachers.They agreed with the association's demands at large, and realized the need of doing something for the downtrodden teachers. The eventful day, concluded with the projection of a revolutionary documentary film on the sufferings of the hapless part-time teachers, planned, funded & formulated by the Association itself.
